In the high class area of Duplicity, there is a three year old boy named Eden Grant. He is sweet, respectable, and even a bit shy. Excelling in verbal skills and etiquette, his mother and father could not be more proud.
Felicity Grant is a gentle, caring, stay at home mother, and Alexandre Grant works long hours as an executive for a prestigious architectural firm. He loves his son, his wife, and money. He does better than just "make ends meet", by designing, approving, moving and rejecting buildings and businesses within Duplicity. Because of the financial security, the child is able to grow up happy and healthy in a fairly large mansion-esque home blueprinted by his father. Young Eden fondly refers to his home as "The Castle House."

After two years, Eden has grown more handsome and elegant, but also more cunning. He brashly ignores rules if they do not have any significance, and insults anyone he pleases.
"You should treat others with respect. You should always make a good impression. Be charming," he is told, time and time again. Eventually, he complies.
On play dates, Eden calmly and sweetly coaxes other children's toys right from under their noses. The young boy is already ridiculously persuasive; he convinces anybody he meets they are lucky to even know his name.
This turns out to be the least of the Grant's problems. Alexandre's company has become well-known in faraway countries. He has been constantly flying out for business meetings for the past two years. Felicity becomes tired, depressed, and eventually realizes she is pregnant. Five months pregnant, she finds, after a visit to the family doctor. She has put on few pounds, but had chalked it up to stress and unhealthy eating. Alexandre Grant worriedly rushes home.

Sylvia Grant is born stillborn - no drumming heartbeat, no first breath. Eden looks past his screaming mother and father, points. Sylvia does not breathe, but moves her small, delicate hands, and cries.
The man of the house is horrified. Felicity shakily tells her once devoted husband of her strange, reoccuring dreams. They check calendars. Dates. Things do not add up.
He looks frantically from his wife to his son. Suddenly his perfect son, his perfect family, is ruined.
Everything Alexandre thought he knew is wrong.

A little girl celebrates her seventh birthday. Her eyes are shining pools of oil. Her skin is like porcelain - smooth and soft and white. She wears stylish dresses that belong to a much older generation and her ebony hair cascades in loose curls down her back. Her charming twleve year old brother places his hand across her chest, feels her heart beat, and smiles. Sylvia breathes for the first time in her life. Eden gives her a miniature glass teapot. Their mother sits in a decaying nursery and stares out the window.

A little girl with a too sharp smile and a more-than-just innocent stare sits with her adoring brother in the play room. He brushes her hair and they smile in the old dirty mirror together. He tells her that she's the prettiest and most special person in the world. Even prettier than mother, but not to tell. Eden says that their mother is wrong; Sylvia would never hurt anyone. The girl loves her brother and he is right. She would never hurt him. Mother is scared of her. Mother is scared of everything. She won't respond to her commands anymore. She is worse then Father, who never even loved her.

Eden consoles Felicity Grant, who whimpers softly, and strokes his hair. Sylvia plays outside alone. She never sees the men in the car pull up. The pain is brief but she screams out for her brother one last time. Her only hope. He finds her moments later. The men are gone. He does not understand why she was targeted.
Felicity Grant smiles for the first time in years. She laughs. She skips the hospital, an autopsy; she calls a mortician, a friend of the family. Eden persuades the man into taking him along.
